Yeh Duniya Gazab Ki (Old Doordarshan TV Serial)
Yeh Duniya Gazab Ki was a comedy show that hot on national television in the early 90s. It was the golden era of Doordarshan when the channel solely ruled the evening of every household. Yeh Duniya Gazab Ki was a satire that came on TV when the entire nation was accepting family drama and sensitive social issues. This show was no difference from them. It also depicted some of the very common and nasty issues that people encounter when they walk into government offices or government work. The show concentrated on the red tape that a common man from village had faced when he walked into the big city.
Directed by Raman, the show was conceptualised by Dalip singh. Though the main concept was nothing unique at that time but the makers presented it in a different way. They chose the comedy part to show the bitter side of the system that any common man, especially someone from the rural area can face. Rakesh Bedi, an ace comedian of Hindi film industry played the lead role along with a bunch of comedians like Tiku Talsaniya, Swaroop Sampat and others in the show. It was nearly 13 episodes that were aired and those 13 episodes made the viewers love the show till now.
The story began with a common man namely Nihaal who lived in a rural area. Nihaal was a good man and used to do good stuff for the people living around him. He didn’t have any bad intentions; he was an innocent person who used to help everyone.
One day he came to know that government is giving him an honour for doing good stuff in his area. Nihaal being a common man got very happy and planned to visit the big city to receive the honour from the government. The villagers, especially the head of the Panchayat and his family helped him to go to the city to get his name.
The story started when Nihaal walked into the city. A simple man who never walked out of his small town was living in such a complex and big city. As the story went on the viewers got to see how the man encountered a several issues. How he caught into the strict rules and regulations of the system that were gazab (odd) to him. He was completely unaware of such things; he was experiencing them for the first time.
The story went on with his struggle and his experiences he kept gathering while living in the city. At the end of the show the viewers got to watch that Nihaal got back to his village and his roots. He had enough of the red tape of the system and the big city.
It was a comedy show that entertains everyone irrespective of age. There wasn’t any content that kids or the adults can’t watch together in the show. In every era and generation comedy shows win over any family drama, so did this show. Yeh Duniya Gazab Ki showed that side of the society which still remains same somewhere. Many a people caught into red tape while working with government’s officials. Most of the times these bureaucracy looks odd and weird to us and we get confused what to do next. The show actually showed the same thing in satirical way which was more entertaining to watch.
Also it showed another important thing. With the returning back of Nihaal, the show left a good note that at the end of the day we all have to return to our roots. Wherever we reach, wherever we go, we have to return back to our roots one day, because the world is odd and weird, yeh duniya gazab ki.
