Aisa Bhi Hota Hai (Old Doordarshan TV Serial)
It was early 90s when DD Metro came up with some of the fabulous shows that were rare at that time on television. There were not so many reality shows running on TV like today. Reality shows were often either a singing or dancing talent shows that used to came on screen at that point of time. It was the first time when DD Metro brought a reality show like Aisa Bhi Hota Hai.
The show was not something fictional. It was based on real life people. Whoever featured on the show in each episode were real people and nothing was created artificially. Monica Lal had received huge popularity from this weekly show. Another presenter Lalit Behl had also received many followers during the show.
The director once told that the show became so popular that people from across the nation kept sending letters during the show. They had received more than 1000 letters from the audience who had liked the show and its contents. The show used to come on Sunday morning which was the perfect time for everyone to watch it and enjoy.
Aisa Bhi Hota Hai is a reality show based on real people. The makers didn’t intend to find new talents but people who were different, unique and rare. They had come up with the facts that were unbelievable. After watching every episode we all did say ‘ aisa bhi hota hai?’ (Does it really happen?).
The aim of the show was to find such people and places where you can get weird things. The first episode was started with Monica introducing a post master who runs a post office on the camel. The post office has an address but it does not stay at one place. The man had a camel and the entire post office was set on the back of the camel. The post master used to visit every house to give away their letters. Sometimes he wrote for them, sometimes read for them. He was the only post master there in the village.
Another episode showed a unique man namely Alimuddin in Fatehpur Sikri. The man still carries the historical value of the place. His job was the most unique job ever in the world. The man, at the age of 70 at that point in time, used to jump to the pool from 120 ft. height. The man at that age swam to the bank of the pool for quite a long time. It was his job. He used to do that since he came to Fatehpur Sikhri and still he didn’t leave his job, even when he was at his 70s.
The show was all about such things. There were many more rare people and incidents across the country were shown in the show. It was completely knowledge based show.
As said that the show was knowledge based show and they had shown many an incidents that most of us never knew. We have a big nation with 200 million people. There are so many unrecognised places that still exist and we don’t have any idea about them. This kind of show brings so much knowledge about the nation and the people.
For today’s generation we have Google to get all the information. But there are many places and events that we are still not aware of and that’s when we need these kinds of shows on TV to gather much rare information.
The show is relevant in every aspect today. It was one such show that informed us about people who had never got any attention from the world. Their news or status never uploaded to social media, their names were never taken to the public forums, and all they received was love and respect from the people around them. Through this show many of them got recognition which was quite commendable. Shows like Aisa bhi hota hai really make us question ‘aisa bhi hota hai?’ at the end.
